The Port Hope Predators sit fourth in the Ontario
Provincial Junior A Hockey League's East Division following
Sunday night's 3-0 shutout of the Eagles in Bowmanville.
Port Hope, who also beat the Lindsay Muskies 3-2 in a
shootout Friday, are 9-4-2 on the season so far and two
points behind third-place Peterborough. They trail Kingston
and Wellington by just five and three points respectively.
Predators goalie Jeff Potvin, who was named the game's
first star, stopped all 11 shots by the Eagles, who sit well
back in fifth in the division. Watch The Evening Guide for
further details on Sunday's game.
Friday's game in Lindsay was a quiet affair, with no
repeat of a previous game between the two clubs which
resulted in Port Hope Coach Brian Drumm's 13-game
suspension. It was a tame contest with the Predators taking
nine penalties and the Muskies 10.
Mike Bunting and Sean Streicher are a couple of new names
in Port Hope's lineup. Streicher made his presence known
immediately by contributing an assist on the Preds' first
goal, which was scored in the second stanza by Jeremy
McCarty. Ian Delong is gone. Goalie Matt Dixon was acquired
but does not appear on the roster.
The game opened with a scoreless first period. Derek
Davis combined with Kevin George for a Lindsay marker early
in the second then McCarty tied the game a few minutes
later.
Lindsay's Kyle Stojsin scored off Cam Granger and Mike
Wills in the third. Potvin went to the bench during the
final minute of the game and Sean Bassingthwaite scored with
the extra attacker with 30 seconds left on the clock. Chad
Dunlop drew an assist.
Neither team managed to score in overtime. It took four
players from both teams to settle the game during the
shootout. Jordan Wilson and Dunlop scored for the Predators
while Granger scored the lone marker for the Muskies.
Potvin faced 33 shots while Lindsay's Richard Nerland
stopped 28 of 30.
Jordan Wilson leads Port Hope marksmen with six goals and
12 assists for 18 points. He is in about 43rd spot in the
league's overall scoring standings.
Potvin ranks 13th among netminders with a
goals-against-average of 2.74.
The division-leading Voyageurs of Kingston come to the
Jack Burger Sports Complex Friday to take on the Predators.
