Predators add speed and skill to
2006 - 2007 lineup
Press Release: July 31, 2006
By: Predators
Administration
The 2006 - 2007 OPJHL seasons is almost upon us and will prove
to make for a very interesting season throughout all of the
Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League as each team must make
adjustments to accommodate the new rules of play or risk being
left behind early this winter. "The new game" will surely create
havoc for teams that refuse to adapt to a more open and free
wheeling style of play much like the new NHL and the Preds are
determined to stay ahead of the curve this year.
"It cannot be said often enough that we are extremely lucky to
have been able to add a quality Head Coach of Mr. Crashley's
stature and experience to our organization" said Predators
director of hockey, Tim Clayden "Coach Crashley brings maturity
and a very knowledgeable understanding of this great game to our
hockey club and along with the introduction of the new rules of
play and Coach Crashley's experience, we feel the combination of
both can give our hockey club an early advantage this season "
added Clayden. "We plan to cash in on Bart's experience of
coaching Division I Hockey for more than a dozen years at one of
Europe's most elite levels of professional hockey played. The
timing of "the new game" and Coach Crashley's refreshing,
creative approach to junior hockey is perfect for both our
organization and the new player's that we plan to add this
season"
“It looks like we are going to get back to playing hockey by the
rules this season and it's about time. For years less talented
players have been able to slow down or impede the progress of
the other more skilled players. Now a player's stick can only be
used to handle the puck. We should see a much faster game this
season and scoring should be up and that is all good news for
our fans too" said the Predators Head Coach, Bart Crashley.
The Predators have already made roster adjustments to the new
way of thinking of how the game will be played this season with
the signings of Texan, Chris Shakesby and very talented local
forward Robert Kay of Newtonville, Ontario. "Chris Shakesby is a
very good, young talented skating forward who will be playing
for us the couple of seasons. Chris lives in Dallas, Texas and
is headed to NCAA College hockey and wanted to play in the OPJHL
in order to better prepare himself for the college game" stated
Coach Crashley" Chris will add speed and skill to our line up"
Coach Crashley added "we are also very pleased that Robert Kay
who is from the Port Hope area will be playing for the Predators
this season. Robert has lots of talent and speed and is an
Honors Student at Trinity College who is also headed for
Division 1 university hockey. Robert was lucky enough to have
just finished a school visit recently with Princeton of the NCAA
Ivy League. Chris and Robert are very good additions to our
team, they both compliment our game philosophy of speed and puck
movement and it will be great to see these two players along
with the other very talented players we are adding to our line
up this season develop into top end junior players before moving
on to the NCAA and or semi professional hockey"
