The Port Hope Predators wrapped up their exhibition
schedule with a 4-3 loss to the Durham Fury, on
Thursday.
The Preds provided plenty of offence in the losing
effort. Ian DeLong tallied a hat trick and added an
assist to grab first star of the game, while Greg Amato
contributed two assists. Goaltenders Spencer Finney and
Mike Hengen split the game, each making 11 saves. Though
there were no points on the line, the game was hotly
contested with both teams spending time in the penalty
box. Durham earned 37 penalty minutes while Port Hope
rang up 29.
With the OPJHL introducing a shootout format this
year, the exhibition game ended with a trial run. Jesse
Stoughton scored for the Preds.
The team now turns its attention to final practices
and preparations in anticipation of the season opener
Sept. 7 in Lindsay against the Muskies. The Predators
first home game is Sept. 8, at 7 p.m., versus
Peterborough.
