Not since their four-game winning streak at the beginning
of the season had the Port Hope Predators put together
back-to-back wins. On the weekend, they earned a 3-0 shutout
over the Eagles in Bowmanville. This Sunday night result
followed a 3-2 shoot-out win over the Muskies in Lindsay
Friday.
The win tightened up the Ontario Provincial Junior A
Hockey League's East Division standings. The Preds are two
points behind third-place Peterborough, three points behind
second-place Wellington and only five points behind
Kingston, the leader. All four teams have played 15 games.
Port Hope netminder Jeff Potvin faced only 11 shots
Sunday night. The Predators levelled 24 shots at Troy
Webster in Bowmanville's goal. Only 17 penalties were called
with Port Hope collecting 10 of them.
The first period was uneventful. No goals were scored and
only two minor penalties were called. The Preds, however,
outshot the Eagles 12-3.
Newcomer Sean Streicher scored the only marker of the
second period, assisted by Mitch Moffat and Jesse Stoughton.
Tyler Miller and Nik Temple rounded out Port Hope's scoring
by lighting the lamp in the final frame. Temple assisted
Miller and Chad Dunlop assisted Temple. Netminder Matt
Dixon, acquired from Aurora, is not on Port Hope's roster.
The Predators get a chance to cut into the lead of the
East's top three teams this weekend. They host Kingston at
the Jack Burger Sports Complex Friday then Peterborough
comes to Port Hope Saturday. Both games begin at 7 p.m.
